Text for Facilities & Environment Section of Grant Applications

We kindly ask that CPeRT members use the text below in the Facilities & Environment Section of grant applications:

The Center for Pharmacoepidemiology Research and Training (CPeRT), based in Penn’s Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CCEB) and led by Sean Hennessy PharmD PhD, was established in 2012 to improve public health and advance science by conducting leading-edge, interdisciplinary research in pharmacoepidemiology, and to train the next generation of research leaders in pharmacoepidemiology. Although CPeRT was founded in 2012, Penn investigators have been leaders in pharmacoepidemiology since the field’s inception in the early 1980s. CPeRT includes approximately 77 investigators (Penn faculty engaged in pharmacoepidemiology research), 12 adjunct investigators (whose primary affiliation is outside of Penn), and 20 investigators-in-training. CPeRT helps to lead Penn’s degree-granting pharmacoepidemiology training programs and conducts a certificate program in pharmacoepidemiology that is taught to employees of the US Food and Drug Administration. CPeRT hosts a biweekly Pharmacoepidemiology Rounds series; hosts a monthly research-in-progress series; co-hosts the monthly Philadelphia Clinical Pharmacology-Pharmacoepidemiology Trainee Seminar Series with Thomas Jefferson University and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; and hosts visiting pharmacoepidemiology methodologists,. CPeRT is an academic partner of the FDA-funded Sentinel Initiative and houses the American editorial office of the journal Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety (PDS). CPeRT members also edit the books Pharmacoepidemiology (currently in its fifth edition) and Textbook of Pharmacoepidemiology (currently in its second edition). CPeRT also operates an ongoing pilot grant program (http://www.cceb.med.upenn.edu/cpert/pilot-grant-program).

[investigator counts up to date as of March 2017]

CREST members develop real-world evidence about the health effects of medications and other medical products, and prepare the next generation of pharmacoepidemiology leaders. CREST is an academic partner to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-funded Sentinel Initiative. CREST members are also editors of the journal Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, and the books Pharmacoepidemiology, 6th edition and Textbook of Pharmacoepidemiology, 3rd edition.
